What hardware and software do I need to enjoy the Shockwave site?
Each game has individual systems requirements, which you can view on the game's landing page. However, for general site use, we recommend the following hardware and software components.
Windows:
- Latest version of Windows 10 or newer.
- Browsers: Latest version of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge.
Apple - Please note that these requirements are only for online games. Downloadable games do not work on MacOS or iOS devices:
- Latest version of MacOS, or iOS for mobile devices.
- Browsers: Latest version of Safari, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome.
We do not support the use of Windows 98 or earlier, Windows Me, Windows NT, Macintosh 8.x or earlier, Linux, Solaris, Unix, IRIX, or other operating systems. We also do not support TV-based or game-based systems (WebTV, etc.). While you may be able to successfully use our site with any of these operating systems, we do not offer technical support for them.
How can I optimize my Windows computer and software to work best with Shockwave?
- Check your display settings. We require a display resolution of at least 1280x720 pixels (1366x768 is recommended). You can change your display settings in Windows by right-clicking on the desktop and choosing Display Settings from the pop-up menu. Scroll down to the 'Display Resolution' setting. If the setting is less than 800x600 pixels, click on the best resolution to meet our minimum requirements. To implement these settings, click 'Keep Settings' when the system switches to the preview.
- Check your version of the DirectX display plugin. You will need at least version 9.0c to view most of our site. Please consult Microsoft's DirectX homepage for downloads and information: DirectX Download
- Make sure you're using Windows' default cursors (mouse pointer icons), instead of custom cursors. You can change the pointers under Control Panel > Mouse > Pointers.
How can I optimize my Mac OS computer and software to work best with Shockwave?
Please note that most modern Mac computers should have no issues running the Shockwave website. However we do recommend checking your monitor settings:
-
Find System Settings from the Launchpad -> In the System Settings click on Displays.
Set the Resolution to at least 1280x800
- Quit unused applications. Press Command-Q to quit an application.

Tips for troubleshooting Shockwave
Shockwave isn't loading properly.
In most cases, this is only a temporary connection issue. Trying again later should resolve it. If it persists, we recommend clearing your cache, or restarting your computer. If you are still experiencing issues with the site not loading properly, please contact us here.
Sometimes I don't hear anything when I check out the titles at Shockwave. What can I do to hear sound at Shockwave on my Windows computer?
Please make sure you have your volume turned up to a volume you can easily recognize. When adjusting your audio sound levels there should be a confirmation sound that lets you know how loud your sound will be.
Also please check to make sure you haven't muted the tab or site as a whole. You can check this by right-clicking on the tab in your browser and making sure 'Mute Site' is not turned on. If the option says 'Unmute Site' please click on that.
Some of the multiplayer games seem to be missing from Shockwave.
All games developed by Game Trust were removed from Shockwave on June 26, 2007. If you have an account with Game Trust, they should have contacted you regarding your account. If you have any questions, please contact Game Trust at [email protected].
